Bio
- Copy and pasted from previous lj, under the name ineffiblenee, because I am a rather lazy creature at this moment...
Sarte be damned, I am authentically what I am, irrespective of mode.
I am a philosophy major (formerly Philosophy and Religion double major, but my schedual did not allow me to complete the second portion of the Rel senior seminar). I currently attend Centre College in Danville, KY and will graduate in the spring of 2006. I am in the process of refining my senior-seminar thesis paper relating to the role of the Eleatic visitor in Plato's "Sophist". My analysis consists mostly of responding to the work of Ruby Blondell on the same topic. As for my analysis of Blondell, I posit that her literary analysis is incredible, and mostly correct, albeit not absolutely exhaustive; her conclusions and undergriding assumptions are, I contend, less so. Regardless, Blondell is, in my opinion, THE foremost scholar on literary analysis of Platonic texts.

I am uncertain as to when I will persue post-grad degrees, although I am fairly certain I will do so at some point in time. When I do persue graduate work, I will likely do so in one (or more if I can find a suitable interdisciplinary program) of the following areas: liguistics (I am much more interested in cognative or acquisitional aspect of language, as well as the psychological implications of language useage than comparative linguistics; I am interested in how vocabulary shapes cultures, but am less concerned with the actual technical/statistical prescriptive facets of language useage (ie, translation) than I am with the theoretical implications and cultural significance of linguistic practices); archeology, specifically archeology in Palestine and the surrounding areas, especially as it relates to the understanding of semetic religious practices preceeding or during the period of the composition of the Hebrew Bible as well as the New Testiment; philosophy, particularly in the areas of the philosophy consciousness, ethics, existentialism, or asthetics; Literary interpretation and analysis, with a focus on the process of cannon formation, the cultural and indivdually experienced impact of literary cannons on non-dominant/less powerful social groups (crudely, group headings such as "women", "diaspora","colonized peoples", "ethinic minorities", "cultural others", "others by virtue of diviation from heteronormative cultural standards"ect)
I have worked as a free-lance make-up artist on one catalogue shoot, and hope to be employed in the same compacity again in the future. There are a myriad of ethical tensions that arise between my femenist and ethical comittments (particularly around the loci of objectifying practices) and my involvement in supporting and perpetuating a pratices that encourage people to engaged in self-monitoring in persuit of physical normativity. I am skeptical of the stance that beauty rituals sole impact relates to an indivduals self esteem and therefore are neither compulsory or socially mandated.
I am resolutely skeptical of most "human nature" claims - any claim that rests upon the dogma that "x is fundamentally and essentially a part of human nature, ergo,x, as well as the circumstances that arise from x, must be at least accepted, if not affirmed, as x can not be altered or erradicated because it is a necessary part of human facticity."
